Projections & Reflections: A Collaboration of Visual Art & Music
January 9, 2014 @ 9:00 am - February 14, 2014 @ 4:00 pmFree
Sally Wood Johnson and Dorothy Hindman’s Projections & Reflections is a multi-media installation of painting, prints and photographs by Johnson that capture aspects of the naturally dappled concrete wall outside her studio in Birmingham. Johnson’s photographs of models in front of the wall and computer generated line drawings are also projected on a screen in conjunction with music composed by Hindman. Pictured is Johnson’s work entitled “Magic Carpet.”
Johnson’s work has been exhibited in 30 solo exhibitions and more than 150 juried and group exhibitions in the United States and Japan. Her favorite critical comment called her work “visualizing the sound of wind chimes.” Since its premiere at Birmingham-Southern College in 2010, Projections and Reflections has travelled to the Huntsville Museum of Art, Mobile Museum of Art, Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, and Jacksonville State University.
Hindman’s composition, The Wall Calls to Me, includes six cellos, French horn, timpani and guitar. Hindman is an award winning musician/composer and is currently the Assistant Professor of Composition at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
