Gallery Talk by Daniel Livingston
May 5, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pmFree
A gallery talk by Daniel Livingston will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts. His exhibit, Raku Works by Daniel Livingston, remains on exhibit through that date. The gallery talk is free and open to the public.
Livingston lives in Tuscaloosa and has been making Raku pottery full-time for more than 20 years. He earned his BFA in 1976 and his MFA in 1979 in ceramics and painting from the University of Alabama. Livingston is now a fixture at the Kentuck Festival, where he glazes and fires his wares on-site.
Raku is a Japanese style of firing ceramics dating back hundreds of years. What makes it unique is the range of designs that can be created by simply altering certain variables.
Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is located at 217 East Tuscaloosa Street and is open, free of charge, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Museum programs are made possible, in part, by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. The event is sponsored by the Florence Department of Arts and Museums.
